About this listen

From the bestselling author of The Girl in the Corner comes a story that asks: how do you forgive the family that lied to you, and love the mum you never had?

When her loving, free-spirited grandmother Primrose passes away, Victoria is bereft, yet resilient - she has survived tragedy before. But even her strength is tested when a mysterious woman attends Prim's funeral and claims to be the mother Victoria thought was dead.

As the two women get to know each other and Victoria begins to learn more about her past, it becomes clear that her beloved grandmother had been keeping life-changing secrets from her. Desperate for answers, she still struggles to trust anyone to tell her the truth.

To live a full and happy life, Victoria knows she must not only uncover the truth, but find a way to forgive her family. But after so many years, is trusting them even possible?

Beautifully written, easy read

The way the author has written and narrated the characters is both believable and believable. Easy read to pick up and put down although I was eager to finish the book, and did so over the course of 3 days.

Captivating

One of life’s every day challenges brought to life with all it’s difficulties explored. Amanda Prowse has a way of expressing true empathy.

Family relationships

This tale made for gentle and easy listening to whilst walking but despite that it did make me wonder how I would have reacted placed in Prim's, Sarah's or Victoria's shoes.

Imagine the shock when at age 18 Victoria finds out the mother she thought had died when she was a baby was actually alive and well, worse still, her beloved Grandmother Prim had been part of the deception that had coloured the teens whole life.

Like other readers it can be difficult to fully engage when a book is written from the perspective of a teenager because those days the horror of teenaged angst can feel a long way behind me. That aspect aside, this was an enjoyable listen.

Gripping

This is a slow burner but keep with it … I got totally wrapped up in the whole story line … found myself crying whilst listening to it and not realising .. love the story ,happy, sad, frustrating , anger intact most of our emotions.. it kept me gripped because I just had to know Sara’s story and victorias too .. a good read .

Teenagers

I wish it had been marked as a teenager’s book. For me , it was boring ,long winded and predictable .
By the time I’d decided that it was to continue thus it was really too late to return it.

Lovely

What a lovely story! Normally I listen to murder & crime fiction , but this gentle book with its unfolding story gripped me how 2 strangers put life and relationships back together woven delicately and enchantingly

Another brilliant novel

As usual Amanda Prowse has written another brilliant novel. She is my favourite writer and I especially love the way she narrates her own books. Her voice is especially lovely to listen too.
