About this listen

We heard it too many times: “Babies don’t come with an instruction manual.” Instead of taking the old cliché at its word, we asked, “why not?”.

The famous Moms on Call series is here to help, equipping parents with trusted resources and practical guidance to navigate their child’s first four years with confidence, clarity, and better sleep.

To start with, I do appreciate it that the authors want to read their own book but one of them doesn't have a great voice to listen to. I didn't even finish listening.

I don't find this handbook very helpful. Some of the advice given is very difficult to follow. For example : I never bathed my daughter every evening before bed, like I have the energy to do that. Or feed her at 7 am, since she is an only child I take the time to sleep as much as I can if my work schedule allows it, nights are difficult enough. And I've also never been able to put her to sleep at 7 PM, it's more manageable at 9 for us. I've always tried to incorporate her daily activities into our existing schedule, like breakfast at 9 AM, lunch at 12, dinner at 6pm. It's easier to feed her when she's not eating alone anyway.

I do realize these are personal choices and the book only gives guidelines.
They also list what is in their medicine cabinet and I wonder if that's normal for America because I don't know any of those products (I live in Belgium) other than what's in my first-aid kit.
The book also gives advice that's contrary to advice I've gotten from my midwife. Example: do use special bottles if you plan to breastfeed and pump in order to avoid confusion.

I could go on but if you've read this much you'll see my point.

Not the handbook for me

I was loving the book until I got to 3 months of age and they started to explain the extinction method! Each to their own but it’s not for me. If you don’t mind the extinction method then this book and all the other info is great.

Such a shame
