Beautifully written story that brought Lagos to life from my apartment thousands of miles in the west!

Great premise, vivid descriptions of Lagos all made for a good set up and context. Unfortunately, there was no story to be had - the plot device that sets up the story did not really go anywhere. There was good social commentary on Lagos life, real life people and places were woven in very neatly. Very poorly written and stereotypical female characters, only there to validate the stronger and more developed male narrative. The narrator also grated with his pseudo-American accent - the story flowed better when he spoke in Pidgen English and had to forgo his fake American accent. The author writes well, but was just in desperate need of a story here. The character study was not enough as most of the characters (especially the women) were so superficially drawn.
