About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

The real Line of Duty.

'The first rule of covert surveillance is never disturb the environment. To be an undercover officer, you must watch and wait. Before that, though, is the question of identity. Embarking on a covert operation you first must decide who you are. Who will you be today?'

Liam Thomas was an officer in the Met for over a decade, many of those years spent deep at the heart of Britain's most dangerous criminal enterprises in the murky world of undercover surveillance. Before him, his father had also been a police officer, a pillar of their small community.

Fighting corruption was Liam's life. But the murky world of undercover work teaches him that justice is far from black and white - and a family secret reveals that corruption is closer to home than he had ever expected. The revelations push him to the edge of his sanity - and then he discovers that his bosses are investigating him...

A thrilling memoir of a life lived amongst a world of corruption, justice and questionable loyalties, this book tells the real story of the police's line of duty.

I loved the drama and the brutal honesty about Liams thoughts, his life experiences and his personal family history. It left me wanting to learn more throughout. Amazing.

Unbelievably gripping and well written.

really didn't expect as I drove around my home town making deliveries ,that the story would take me to that very same town.

A true and raw account of what modern day policing entails with its range of politicing officers.

As someone who grew up in the same town and also works in a similar profession I found it rather profound.

thanks for all you did.

R.I.P to bud/Paul.

hope you win you're battle Liam.

Good luck for the future

I loved this story and couldn't wait to listen to it, highly recommended to all, the met should be ashamed for what they put him through but sadly it is damming of what is every increasing in Britain a story of am alright Jack and people not doing the correct thing.

A thought provoking and alarming book, particularly on the personal and professional demands of policing, very well narrated by the author.

A genuine and engaging account of Liams time with the MET. Read by Liam with such character and emotion. Listened over a period of 3 or 4 weeks, but I was picked right back up and thrust into the story as though it was yesterday. A sensational read, and i cannot wait for the next…?

Gripping from end to end, and told with true character.

Finished it in a couple of days. Such a riveting story. Liam’s voice was just perfect to tell this (his) story.

A brilliant listen

Superbly read by the author and a fascinating tale of betrayal and corruption of an honest hardworking detective. Anyone who has served will recognise the character types. Can’t praise if enough. Best wishes to the author for a healthy, happy future.

What an enthralling read

There are books/audiobooks that you are glad that you read and/ listened to. This is one audiobook that will stay in my mind for a long time. The quote 'time will tell' comes to mind along with ' the truth will always come out '. Liam Thomas, I hope that you have the peace of mind that you so rightly deserve. You also are a gifted narrator and hope that you consider narrating other audiobooks in the future.

The truth about a police system that doesn't work
