About this listen

‘The sci-fi romance adventure you never knew you needed’

Jennifer L. Armentrout, author of Fall of Ruin and Wrath

An action-packed supernatural road trip featuring an extraordinary young girl and her two unlikely protectors. The Bones Beneath My Skin is a gripping, heartfelt story that explores what it means to be human – by bestselling author of The House in the Cerulean Sea, TJ Klune.

He lost everything. Then he found himself . . .

In the spring of 1995, Nate Cartwright is at a loose end: his parents are dead, his older brother has disowned him, and he’s been fired from his job. Looking for a sense of direction, he returns to his family’s summer cabin in Oregon.

The cabin should be empty – but it’s not. Inside is a man named Alex, and an extraordinary little girl who calls herself Artemis Darth Vader. There’s far more to Art than meets the eye. But as Alex and Nate bond over just how special she truly is, they discover that powerful forces are closing in – forces that want nothing more than to control her.

As danger draws near, Nate decide whether to drown in the memories of his past, or fight for Art and a future he never thought possible.

With his uplifting tales of hope and redemption, there is a TJ Klune book for every listener.

The characters are always strong and well written, the story wasn’t as original or imaginative as his other books but still fun

Enjoyable

I’ve read three of TJ Klunes’ books: The House in the Cerulean Sea, Somewhere Beyond the Sea, Under the Whispering Door. All are lovely, unique stories. The Bones Beneath My Skin was my first narrated listen, and I’m SO GLAD I chose narration rather than reading this time. THANK YOU Kirt Graves for bringing an excellent book to a new level of enjoyment! Highly recommended for all open minded people seeking a temporary escape from this harsh word.

Good pacing, exciting plot with lots of unexpected twists and turns. Original ideas and characters. Sensitive erotic scenes.

Nate, Alex and Art are meant for each other and learning their individual pasts and how they came to find one another in this beautiful found family is amazing. AND oh yeah lets throw a CULT and GOVERNMENT in their for good measure. lol

A beautiful story by the legendary TJ Klune. The man is master of writing witty, funny and heartfelt stories that show the best of humanity. He is a true credit to the LGBTQ+ Community.

TJ Klune has done it again; with style, with intrigue, with love! I didn’t want this book to end! But when it does, the ending is super and full of love!

The love! So much love !!!

Awkward narrative with awkward characters acting awkwardly for no other reason than to get in the odd corny joke or cute phrase of dialogue or to shoehorn in the next plot point. Scowling, grunting and “saying it’s complicated” doesn’t build a great foundation to create layered believable and human characters. “Sci fi” so we can suspend disbelief - just a pity that I couldn’t even believe the people.

Clunky and awkward - unrelatable reactions to fit in with story arc.
