About this listen

The new Kay Scarpetta novel from the world's number-one best-selling crime writer. In Alberta, Canada, an eminent paleontologist disappears from a dinosaur dig site, and at the Cambridge Forensic Center, Kay Scarpetta receives a grisly communication that gives her a dreadful reason to suspect this may become her next case. Then, with shocking speed, events begin to unfold.

A body recovered from Boston Harbor reveals bizarre trace evidence hinting of a link to other unsolved cases that seem to have nothing in common. Who is behind all this? And whom can Scarpetta trust? Her lead investigator Pete Marino and FBI husband Benton Wesley are both unhappy with her because of personnel changes at the CFC, and her niece Lucy has become even more secretive than usual. Scarpetta fears she just may be on her own this time - against an enormously powerful and cunning enemy who seems impossible to defeat.

Cornwell back to her best!

Enjoyed this audio book whilst on holiday in Turkey. Cornwell is definately back to her best in this gripper, Great plot, well written and had the depth I have missed in some of her more recent novels.

Not her best

I have listened to or read a good number of the Scarlett’s series but this disappointed. I found it difficult to get really involved in this story. Some of the characters are a bit tired and the ending was almost an anticlimax. The plot didn’t really develop fully.

Classic Cornwell

Much better than other recent works by same author. Getting back to the quality of storytelling in her early books.

Well narrated as usual by Lorelei King...

Thrilling and well-paced!

The narrator is always top notch. The story gets bogged down occasionally by medical terminology, but nevertheless the usual good story. Will always be a Scarpetta fan.

SCARPETTA! What are you doing?

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The first half of the book was very descriptive, laying out in great detail the recovery of the Leatherback turtle and the attached body

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Hugely disappointing

Did Lorelei King do a good job differentiating each of the characters? How?

She reads well, but she needs better material than this

If this book were a film would you go see it?

No

Any additional comments?

I have read all the Scarpetta books the early ones were very enjoyable. However I think this book is mt last

Overblown with excessive description

The story, when it finally ended was clever but far too much padding, most of which was unnecessary.
14 chapters to get a body out of the water? Really?
