About this listen

Lillian is distraught - she must register for compulsory war work. Emily is also furious - her dream job as a chef will have to be put on hold, whilst Alice must abandon her plans of college.

Staring at an identical letter, Elsie feels a kindling of hope, and down in London Agnes is packing her bags with a smile.

Sharing grief and joy, lost dreams and gained opportunities, the five new bomb girls will find friendship and strength that they never before thought possible.

I think the narration spoilt this book for me. There was nothing wrong with her ability but her mature voice made it hard not to imagine these young girls as mature 40something year olds! They're supposed to be late teens/early 20s! Overall I enjoyed the story, it wasn't "everything works out for everyone" kind of tale but I don't want to post any spoilers, so I won't go into detail! There are a few gaps that could do with a bit more detail and some areas that could have easily been omitted without detracting away from the story. But overall I enjoyed the story!

Good story.... but....

Loved the story, would recommend it. This is the 1st I've read in this genre of book, always felt I was to young to enjoy it but I was wrong. It is heartwarming with endearing characters and anecdotes, whilst respectfully portaying the sadness and realities that living through wwii brought.

Heartwarming, easy listen.

Great war time story outlining the role woman played during the war. The relationships during that time had a rhythm adjusted to the times and was unique. it was excellent!
