About this listen

'Page-turning and chilling' The Sun

'The story was full of twists and was intense and immersive. A fantastic start to an intriguing new series’ Angela Marsons

A deadly gift

Imogen Clark wakes up on her 16th birthday to find her parents dead at the breakfast table, along with a message from their killer.

A twist of fate

Detectives Jazzy Solanki and Annie McQueen join the investigation, but the more they discover, the more Jazzy suspects that the killing is a twisted message for her. Jazzy shares the same birthday as Imogen, and believes that this is more than a coincidence.

A race to catch a killer

When Jazzy discovers the connection between the killer and the stalker who has been following her for years, she is forced to confront the dark past she was desperate to keep hidden. She must stop at nothing to solve the case, before she becomes the next victim…

Don't miss the first book in the Solanki and McQueen Crime Series, perfect for fans of Stuart MacBride, Val McDermid and Marion Todd.

The Gripping story

This is the first of what I hope will be many ‘Jazzy and Queenie’ novels. Liz Mistry has created a group of fantastic characters and has managed to entertain, horrify, mystify and amuse the listener all at the same time. The narration is great. What is the audiobook equivalent of a page-turner?

Great characters, intriguing and suspenseful plot

I was excited to read this first in a new series by Liz Mistry. This one is set in her native Scotland instead of Yorkshire, where she now lives.

The book is dark and gruesome. It is plotted well and moves at a good pace. There is real tension at times, making me hold my breath without realising. Jazzy (Solanki) and Queenie (McQueen) are both fascinating characters. I wasn't sure I liked either of them at the beginning of the book but they steadily grew on me. They have great banter which helps lighten the mood after some very dark scenes. Some of the Scottish slang was challenging, but definitely added to the authenticity of the story.

I loved the narration by Blythe Jandoo.

Fab start to a new Scottish crime series

Dark, compelling crime story. The characters and their humorous interchanges temper the rawness of the plot and so reflect Scottish culture. The wonderful, skilled writing drew me into the world of the Jazz Queens. I look forward to the next in the series. I listened to the audio book and commend the narrator.

Compelling, pacy crime story with characters it’s easy to spend time with.

Fantastic

Sorry but her previous books were better. The monotonous Scottish drawl is bad enough but the book just never gets going. I read lots of audiobooks and know that sometimes you have to just get used to the narrator and give the story but after a couple of hours I have had enough. I am not kept keen enough to keep going. Sorry.
