About this listen

May 1992, and after four LAPD officers were acquitted after the savage beating of Rodney King, Los Angeles is ablaze. As looting and burning take over the city, law and order are swept away in a tidal wave of violence. But under threat of their lives, homicide detectives like Harry Bosch are still stubbornly trying to do their job. With no effective police presence on the streets, murder just got a whole lot easier - and investigating them got a whole lot harder.

Escorted by National Guard soldiers from murder scene to murder scene, Harry and his colleagues are only able to do the bare minimum in terms of collecting evidence. And for Harry that's not enough. When he finds the body of a female journalist executed in an alley, he cannot accept that he will never be able to bring her killer to justice, and her tragedy starts to eat into his soul. But then, 20 years later, Harry finds himself working in the Open Unsolved Unit, and suddenly the past comes back to haunt him once again, in a way he could never have imagined.

Read by Michael McConnohie. Michael McConnohie has had a long career as both an on-camera and voiceover actor. He was two of the original Transformers as well as a GI Joe in the cartoon series which is still airing today, and has lent his voice to countless TV shows and motion pictures. He has been an audiobook presence for decades. From true crime to fiction to self-help, he's read just about every kind of audiobook there is. He's an AudioFile Earphones award winner for Stuart M. Kaminsky's Always Say Goodbye, and was part of the Grammy-nominated Lincoln-Douglas Debates with David Straithairn and Richard Dreyfuss. Michael makes his home in Southern California.

Never read a bad book by him and don't expect to. One of my all time favourite authors.

LOVE MICHAEL CONNELLY

Another Harry Bosch, as he nears retirement. The story was gripping and the narration added to the experience, which is not always the case.

As fresh as ever!

20 years after the event Harry sets out to solve the murder of a female photojournalist during the 1992 L.A. riots that followed the verdicts in the Rodney King case. Harry had originally investigated the case but it was subsequently passed over to the Riot Crimes Task Force and never solved.

A new narrator for the Bosch franchise – Michael McConnohie seems well up to the task.

Another excellent outing for Connelly's irascible detective that certainly won’t disappoint

More Classic Bosch!

Having read the reviews of the narration and story I thought this was better than expected. The narrator actually was far better than expected and was able to deliver a degree of variation in voices, more so than the previous books narrator in the series. I forget his name.

In the recent books you do get the sense that Harry Bosch is a bit of a pain in the arse, and you continue to feel sorry for people around him. His constant drive forward got the mother of his daughter killed in a recent book, and nearly got him killed in this book, who'll be next!?

Its a good book, and a decent narrator so give it a try.

Better than I expected

Briljant book

The final deneument happens a bit too fast and fortunately for me after a great set up, with twists and turns to keep you thinking along the way.

Good premise , less satisfying closure

The storyline keeps you engaged and guessing. A plot and a sub plot and a clash with LT.

Good storyline - typical Bosch

Another riveting Bosch book. Couldn't put down, read it along with the narration. Can't wait for the next one. yelseeb

This, for me, has to be one of Michael Connelly best. I was drawn in from beginning to end. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks

An Excellent Listen

Harry Bosch continues to do what he does best. Relentlessly pursuing justice whilst rebelling against conformity. Once again the powers that be are against him. Connelly again keeps the story flowing whilst being extremely insightful , it's difficult to stop listening. If you like Bosch you won't be disappointed.
