About this listen

He’s commitment phobic. She believes in happy endings. The twist of fate that binds them is a surprise they never saw coming in a bittersweet romance about instant family—and not-so-instant love.

A decade-old animosity is the only thing Liam Davies and Zoe Valentine have in common. Until their mutual best friends pass away and they’re appointed co-guardians of the trusting couple’s precocious toddler, Mira.

Liam is committed only to professional football. Relationship-wise, he’s even better at defense. Still wrestling with a tough childhood, he’s not cut out to be a father. Why his late best buddy believed in him, Liam has no idea.

An optimistic romantic, Zoe has always dreamed of a fairy-tale life. But even though Liam’s biceps make her dizzy and she can’t stop thinking about his lips on hers, he’s not exactly Prince Charming. With or without that brooding Brit, she is determined to make good on her friends’ last wish.

Forced into a predicament they never expected, Zoe and Liam are discovering things about each other that could scorch through boundaries, warm hearts, and change minds. And best of all, with their shared love for a pint-size surprise like Mira, they might just turn a house into a home.

This didn’t feel like my type of book but after the 3rd chapter I was hooked and couldn’t wait to see how it progressed. Perfect

The damaged hero and his slow healing

Good story. Felt it went on a bit long with Liam and Zoe getting together near the end. Felt more could have happened sooner.

Good story

A bittersweet, emotionally charged slow burn featuring an adorable child and some smut-loving older ladies.

Zoe and Liam

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.

This is a tender, slow-burning romance that blends grumpy/sunshine charm with a deeply emotional co-guardianship plot. When two opposites are forced into close quarters to care for an almost three-year-old girl (who, along with her ducks, completely steals the spotlight), sparks fly in all the right, exasperating ways. With tropes like hate-to-love, forced proximity, he-falls-first, and a very slow burn, this story takes its time - sometimes a bit too much - but delivers a satisfying emotional payoff. The low spice level is balanced by rich character development, lingering tension, and moments of genuine vulnerability. While the pacing occasionally lags, the emotional depth and endearing child character make it a heartfelt read.
Samantha and Shane did a great job with this dual style audio.

Mira and her ducks

A lovely, captivating story, full of sexual tension and sweet interaction with little Mira as they become an instant family. It's great to read how our characters are overcoming al the negative situations in their past and the hurt others have done that shaped their outlook of themselves. An excellent performance by both narrators, I could listen to the voice of Shane East all day.

Smashing story
