About this listen

Fleeing before a relentless army, Todd has carried a desperately wounded Viola right into the hands of their worst enemy, Mayor Prentiss. Immediately separated from Viola and imprisoned, Todd is forced to learn the ways of the Mayor's new order. But what secrets are hiding just outside of town? And where is Viola? Is she even still alive? And who are the mysterious Answer? And then, one day, the bombs begin to explode....

The Ask and the Answer is a tense, shocking and deeply moving novel of resistance under the most extreme pressure.

With the characters from the first book and a few new ones the story develops into a battle between fanatics. The theme being you can't trust warmongers - on any side.

Keeps the story going

Equally as great as the first book! I was not able to stop listening to this book, LOVED IT!

Fantastic

The second book in the trilogy is as fast paced and exciting as the first. There are plenty of twists and turns and sometimes your not sure who should be trusted. I can't wait to start the third and final book. Keep them coming Patrick. Such unusual, thought provoking stories.

This author is brilliant.

This book was spoilt by the new IOS update which made the audible app crash and freeze. Several uninstalls and reinstall of the app were needed to enable continued listening.

Book great listen

Honestly Probably one of the best ways to continue an already fantastic story absolute masterpiece, it was read so well and Humphreys voice just made the story become even more alive with the right vocal inflictions and slight accent changes in all the right places.

Can't put my finger on what I didn't like but I struggled to finish.

Dragged a little

Although this is supposed to be a book for older children I have found the story to be well written and beautifully read. The characters come to life with the narrator and you want to keep listening.

After finishing book 1, you need book 2, now after finishing book 2 I need book 3. the cliff hangars are intense. the storyline is good, engaging and the narrator is good. i keep thinking his voice for mayor prentiss sounds just like grand moff tarkin from star wars (for me, this is good). narrator has good vocal range for different characters.

couple of complaints:
how many times the author repeats the same words, it can be a bit irritating, like when todd is calling viola for example.
and then this complaint is about the audiobook itself, at least once in each book so far there's been just the pure sound of the "noise" I guess it gives you a feel of how it would be walking into a city or something with so much noise around, but each time is, loud, takes too long to get past and annoying. I wanna enjoy the book, not cringe at the noise coming from the speakers or headphones.

other than that, loving it. proceeding to buy the next book right now!

Good listens

Great follow up, and as said before it has been read superbly. So good that you'll have to buy the next one!

Excellent second part!

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

This is a great second instalment in the trilogy, I was gripped from start to finish and I always looked forward to my commute home so I could listen to more of the story!

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I loved the character development of Davey Prentice Jr in this book, he quickly became one of the best developed characters in the series.

Great second installment
