About this listen

This is a gay romance that contains erotic scenes.

Nick Tremantle has had a rough 10 months. His professional life took a nosedive, and then his mom's health took a turn for the worse. In a short space of time, everything changed. So when he spies the young man hitchhiking, Nick pulls over - he needs all the karma he can lay his hands on. But when the identity of the young man is revealed, it sets in motion a chain of events that unfold quickly, changing Nick's life completely. Alex Nordmann's life has definitely not gone the way he'd planned. Gone are his dreams of an education and living his life "his" way. He'd thought the worst was over until the morning he decided to come out to his parents. It just goes to show, people will surprise you every time. For instance, who could have foreseen that the man who gives him a ride - and an unexpected lifeline - would have been Alex's first crush all those years ago? Alex has no idea what's coming at him....

We first meet Nick Tremantle who's a teacher and in the closet. He's driving home and see a hitchhiker who he thinks looks familiar, pulling over to pick him up he recognises the hitchhiker and that's where we meet Alex Nordmann former student and recently recovered from leukaemia.

This is a slow burn and beautifully written book, it follows two guys who are pretty much first timers. No triggers or anything you don't want to read, this is a lovely soft romance, genuine life. Can't wait to see where we go on book two.

as good as the ebook

The story is always 4-5 stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook. I can't listen to an audiobook without knowing the book, that's not possible for me.

The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. It took me a little bit, to come into the narrator, but at the end, it worked. I only have to take a few breaks between. I'm just not yet finish with the book, I’m over the half, but I listen enough to give a review.

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings:

5* - very very good
it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often re-listening
it's like an A

3* - it's more then a one-time-listening.
it's like a B

A delightful teacher and former student romance

This short friends to lovers story is sweet and romantic, as well as hot. Nick is a lonely, closeted, and sexually inexperienced teacher, who quite by chance meets Alex, a former student, whose family has rejected him because he's gay. Nick offers him a place to stay while he sorts his life out.

I liked that the story is told in alternate POVs so we get a glimpse into both Alex and Nick’s thoughts and feelings. They are both loveable and believable characters, and from the start, the reader/listener wants them to get together and fall in love. Their rather sad backstories are interwoven through the dialogue in this slow-build romance. As the two men get to know and trust each other more, they make the age gap work for them, and when they finally make out, it’s hot as well as tender.

Rob Drex is a relatively new narrator on Audible and this is the first story of his I have listened to. His performance of the story was clear and steady. He made a distinction between the main character’s voices and he portrayed their emotions well.
