About this listen
After the death of her lover, Jake, Talulla Demetriou is the last living werewolf. And she's on the run. Pregnant, grieving, and with only her human familiar Cloquet helping her keep one step ahead of the Hunt, Talulla flees to a remote Alaskan lodge to have her child in secret. The birth leaves her ravaged, but with her infant son in her arms it looks as if the worst is over. Until the door bursts open – and she discovers that the worst is only just beginning… Talulla is plunged into a race against time to save her son. Tormented by guilt and fuelled by rage, she is pursued by deadly forces – from a psychotic new WOCOP leader to blood-drinking religious fanatics and (rumour has it) the oldest living vampire on earth.
Hopeless odds. Unless, of course, a mother's love for her child turns out to be the deadliest force of all…
©2012 Glen Duncan (P)2012 Canongate BooksTalulla is ready to give birth, but is still grieving, in fact she doesn't feel like she can bond with her child once it arrives. The vampires are still looking for her and it's almost a full moon.

If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?
People who appreciate poor B movie type fare. What could Glen Duncan have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Taken longer to get the characters somewhat more believable.Would you listen to another book narrated by Penelope Rawlins?
Possibly. What character would you cut from Talulla Rising?
Who would I keep is a better question.Any additional comments?
The first book was interesting. By turns violent and crude but still feeling very much a fresh take on werewolves in the modern day. It felt like a book the author had wanted to write for a long time. This book feels like a sequel that was forced out of the author or one that was written by someone else. The heroine is not particularly likeable and characters from the first book are resurrected in unlikely ways. The character veers into ideas of feminism but then gets rescued by men all the time. At one point the heroine, with no appreciation of irony, saves herself with an eyebrow pencil. And if that isn't enough the author uses the deus ex machina to get the protagonist out of the scrapes they get into. Hopefully the third installment will eventually turn it around but the goodwill from the first book is thoroughly used up by this one.Not rising but descending into mediocrity.
