About this listen
In this book, I want to give a synopsis of my personal experience during the Great Recession in the United States from 2008 to 2011. This time was extremely hard financially for millions of Americans and I was part of that wave of people that lost their jobs during this time.
In the United States, your job is what defines you, and it is the first topic of conversation with someone at the coffee shop or at the bar. The writing was in the wall with the collapse of Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers, and no one knew the severity of the situation that the country was going to face.
In the blink of a few months, millions of people lost their jobs and their business, and poverty started to become a part of Americans’ lives. Little did I know that I would be a part of this group of people, desperately looking for work and a meaningful form of existence that would not be possible without a good paying job. In April 2009, my luck came to a crashing end and I faced long unemployment lines and no hope in sight.
