About this listen

Edith Nesbit is best known as the author of children’s classics, such as The Railway Children. She was also a renowned author of ghost stories and othertales of terror, the macabre and the supernatural. In this collection of spine-chilling narratives, Nesbit presents us with a truly masterful set of tales of love which reaches out beyond the grave, ghosts, eerie incarnations, evil deeds and uncanny happenings. Perfect bedtime listening.... if you dare!

Love Edith Nesbit's horror stories and the reader was great, but what really began to irk me where pauses, page turns and things like hesitations or coughs that should have been edited out in production.

Could have done with a quick edit

For those who only know E E Nesbit from the "Railway Children" these ghost stories will be a revelation. If you like the classic style of writers like M R James you will like these. OK - if they are so good, why the one star. Easy - the tales are spoiled by the laboured, mannered narration. Before you buy, please do what I did not - listen to the sample. I've managed to listen to the first tale only because it was one I didn't know and wanted to get to the end. I cannot listen to the rest the narration is just too annoying.

Good stories, terrible narration
