About this listen

Deemed "irreplaceable" by Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson assumed his nickname during the Battle of Bull Run in the Civil War. It is said that the Army of Northern Virginia never fully recovered from the loss of Jackson's leadership when he was accidentally shot by one of his own men and died in 1863.

Davis highlights Stonewall Jackson as a general who emphasized the importance of reliable information and early preparedness, who so believed in information that he had a personal mapmaker with him at all times, and he details Jackson's many lessons in strategy and leadership.

I really enjoyed this book. Gen Jackson was a very interesting man. His leadership and insight as a military commander was amazing. I would recommend this book.

Mr Davies has done history a great favour by leaving us a very balanced picture of Stonewall Jackson's career and faith, Showing him to have been a giant with a heart like King David's. The book is very accessible and the narration lends itself excellently to the subject matter.

This is a reliable and solid biography of a man fired by radical ideology - the ideology of the Confederacy! If the South had won - much of what blights the world today would not be present. The author makes a blatant home-goal by implying that the modem warmongering activities of the USA would have been supported by Jackson - when in fact this great man gave his life for the Confederacy in opposition to such bullying tactics. Leave Stonewall Jackson where history has placed him. Let him sleep peacefully with full battle honours!
