About this listen

When Cora attends her sister's birthday party, she expects at most a hangover or a walk of shame. She doesn't anticipate a stolen wallet, leaving her stranded and dependent on Dean—her arch nemesis and ultimate thorn in her side.

And she really doesn't anticipate waking up in shackles in a madman's basement.

To make matters worse, Dean shares the space in his own set of chains.

After fifteen years of teasing, insults, and practical jokes, the ultimate joke seems to be on them. The two people who always thought they'd end up killing each other must now work together if they want to survive.

But Cora and Dean have no idea their abductor has a plan for them. A plan that will alter the course of their relationship, blur the line between hate and love, and shackle them together with far more than just chains.

Contains mature themes.

Amazingly sad.

I shouldn’t have read this book, it’s beautiful beyond words but it open my own traumas and I feel hurted and lost now! I went through something very similar to this character and I just know now I shouldn’t have read it.

Emotional

Woah. I didn’t expect this book to be that emotional.

I’m a bit disappointed with the audiobook, I have been listening and reading it at the same time and lots of words/ sentences were missing, words were changed. It really bothers me. I’m glad I had the ebook at the same time, Otherwise, I’d have been a bit confused at certain stages of the book with whole sentences missing.

But overall, the story was just woah and so realistic. The author described perfectly depression, pdst, trauma etc. Please make sure to read the TWs before reading it, as this book is a bit heavy on them.

Soulful and Shocking….

Cora and Dean went through hell together and came out changed people. It is a story of trying to find light at the end of the tunnel and of following your heart when all else seems lost. I really think this story shows the worst of some humans but also shows how after facing the worst how we can pull through. Not the same, not unbroken but with your heart still beating.

Gripping!

Wow, the first two thirds of this book were absolutely gripping, after that it was a will they won't they end up together, but in your heart you know they will.

Cora and her sister's finance, Dean, who she loves to hate, are kidnapped together and made to do unspeakable things by their captor. They resolve their issues with each other during their captivity as they bond over the situation they find themselves in.

Once they are free, life goes back to 'normal', except for Cora and Dean, life will never be normal again. The dynamic of their relationship has massively changed and now they have to navigate carefully around this new bond whilst trying not to hurt their family in the process.

I found the ending a bit odd, but figured the author is lining up the premise for their next book(s).

The performance of the dual narration was excellent. You could feel the emotion and angst pouring out of them as they relayed the story to the listener, bringing it to life.

Definitely a book I will recommend!

Heartbreaking dark and sexy

This book was a 4* read! Though this had some dark subject matter, it was more of a beautiful mix of healing and finding connection again after trauma.

Wow what a story

Have never read anything so emtional. My first book from this author. Great story of love, hope and survival. The song reference was very close to home for me which made it so poignant.

This was good but very heavy!

Lots of emotional triggers, not easy to listen to but it’s good. The female narrator was great.

It starts off very intense and as it goes on the tears come. A hard and emotional story.

Just incredible

Hard to listen to. Amazing to listen to. I have been in such a book slump recently. Choosing mainly romantasy and getting tired of the storylines repeating. This was full of complications and although somewhat predictable it was still amazing and didn't disappoint. The characters made decisions that made sence. The arguments made sence. There was no eye rolling moments that were cliche or over the top. Full of dark angst. I legitimately found myself stopping what I was doing to fully take in the moment. Placing myself into their characters and feeling my heart break. Beautiful writing. Definately 18+ - I don't recconend books to my friends a lot but for those strong enough to listen to this, I will be!! Well done Jennifer Hartman, I haven't been able to sleep for days thinking about this book!!
