About this listen

Incomer Gloria French is at first welcomed in the Cotswold village of Piddlebury. She seems like a do-gooder par excellence, raising funds for the church and caring for the elderly. But she has a bad habit of borrowing things and not giving them back, so when she is discovered dead, poisoned by a bottle of elderberry wine, folk in the village don't mourn her passing too intently.

Parish councillor Jerry Tarrant hires Agatha Raisin to track down the murderer. But the village is creepy and secretive and the residents don't seem to want Agatha to find who the murderer is, and Agatha's investigations are hampered by the emotional upset of finding her ex, James Lacey, has fallen in love with young detective Toni Gilmour.

And now the murderer is targeting Agatha!

Inimitable with a few niggles

I'm ploughing my way through the Agatha Raisin Mysteries, this is my tenth book. I've grown fond of the inimitable Agatha.... and as much as I love Penelope Keith as an actress... I'm compelled to highlight a few niggles with her performance as narrator.
Strange pronounciation of the word 'rifle' ie: quickly looking through something one has no real right to...as 'riffle'.
And her inconsistency of vowel pronounciations ie: a flat 'a' sound in the word 'plastic'.... and an elongated 'a' sound in 'grass' and many other 'a' vowel words.
Often her characterisations are faulty.... 'accents' not being her metier.
M. C. Beaton clings to hackneyed words, phrases and descriptions in her writing ie: capacious handbags....lugubrious faces.... and thin strands of hair combed over scalps which show through..... there are nunerous others. which over the many mysteries begin to pall.
Having said this, I do intend to read on untill I've all the released Agatha Raisin Mysteries under my belt. I guess I've fallen under Agatha's spell.

Love Aggie!

There's not too much variety in these books but that's why I like them. And Penelope Keith brings it all to life.

Another amusing mystery

Such an easy listen. Ok the culprit is unmasked too soon, but it's another classic story of. the annoyingly loveable Agatha Raisin and her band of sleuths.

All’s well that ends well

Love Agatha Raisin and the escapades she gets into. Her determination is unstoppable, and she really deserves to succeed! The supporting characters continue to amuse.

This story is another great tale in Agatha’s quest for the truth - at whatever tte cost, and her maternal protection towards her young protégée Toni, is an ongoing source of conflict for Agatha.

Agatha gets better & better

Would you listen to Agatha Raisin: Something Borrowed, Someone Dead again? Why?

I definitely would . I prefered the last 5 Agatha Raisin storied including this one because of the developments involving another character - Toni Gilmore

What was one of the most memorable moments of Agatha Raisin: Something Borrowed, Someone Dead?

Finding out who the murderer was and what happened just before it

Have you listened to any of Penelope Keith’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I have listened to ALL her other readings of Agatha Raisin books and thoroughly enjoyed them

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was suprised that the story continued unexpectedly after I thought it had ended . Agatha's antics as per usual made me laugh out loud

Just perfect, again!

Slowly making my way through each book in the series. Love Penelope Keith's narration, don't think there's anyone could do it better. These books are an absolute gem!
