About this listen

A sudden and fierce snow storm causes Elizabeth, Jane, and Lydia Bennet, as well as their would-be rescuers, Mr. Darcy and Mr. Bingley, to take shelter in an empty cabin. Lydia's suggestion to pass the time with games might be just what Bingley needs to prove Jane truly cares for him.

Will Elizabeth's prejudices of Mr. Darcy hold up under the scrutiny of being stranded with him? What changes could possibly come from the effects of "Snow Storms & Kissing Games"?

A Pride & Prejudice novella variation.

Would you try another book written by Sarah Johnson or narrated by Sophie Andrews?

Probably if it had a good review

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

It was alright, wasn't terrible, but not great.

What does Sophie Andrews bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

She read fine, but the pace wasn't always right

Was Snow Storms & Kissing Games worth the listening time?

Not really

Alright, but not great

I really enjoyed listening to this story. It was a very sweet story showing a different situation for Lizzy to get to know Darcy better. But some of the characters were acting a bit out of character so the narrator had to make them recognisable yet reflect the different tone of the book. I think Lydia was hard because her character was quite different to what we are used to; much more reflective than normal but Sophie Andrews did a good job. Jane was more assertive too. However I think my favourite characterisation was Mr Darcy. For someone who sounds as young as Miss Andrews, she managed to portray his voice with a rhythm and timbre that perfectly reflected his character.

I look forward to more from both the author and the narrator.

A lovely listen

What made the experience of listening to Snow Storms & Kissing Games the most enjoyable?

Knowing that this was Sophie Andrews' first outing as a narrator and thinking how well she did.

What other book might you compare Snow Storms & Kissing Games to, and why?

Any short story or novella by Rose Fairbanks. Sweet yet emotional.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

The scenes in the cabin, especially the Kissing Game!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would have loved to have listened to it in one sitting but as I was listening to it whilst driving a one hour each way commute, I had to split it into two sessions.

Any additional comments?

It's a lovely little story, perfect for snowy days at home or for a commute which allows it to be split into no more than two parts.

Caught in a blizzard with Mr. Darcy!
