About this listen
The mafia south of the Mason Dixon line is ruled by possessive, controlling, dangerous, alphas. Except for one. Saxon Houston has grown up the best friend of the mafia boss’s youngest son. He knew one day he’d have to play a role in the life his father and grandfather are a part of. However, he much preferred dealing with raising and training the thoroughbred race horses side of the family business.
When he falls hard and fast for a girl that ends up being the enemy’s sister, he’s ready to defend her innocence. However, she shuts him out completely. Where the girls before her had failed, Haisley Slate managed to crush him.
Two months later… when he opens the door to his hotel room and she stands there wearing a cleaning uniform, he is cruel. Seeing her makes him feel and he no longer allows that emotion when it comes to her.
There is one issue though… She’s pregnant and it’s his baby.

I love how the accidental pregnancy in this book brings Saxon and Haisley together. They both still have strong feelings for each other despite the circumstances that pulled them apart. Having to spend time together makes them acknowledge their feelings and work through their issues. It also makes Saxon become more responsible and I love character growth in a book.
Saxon is such a sweetheart. Even though he’s still battling negative feelings from her ghosting him, he takes care of her, first for the sake of the baby, and then because he wants her to be happy and well taken care of. This even extends to her siblings. He defends her against people who look down on her because of her background. Like the other MMCs in the series, he’s a possessive alpha male who goes feral when his woman is threatened and I’m here for it.
Haisley is such a sweet, ambitious, strong woman. Unlike Saxon, she’s grown up without much money and has had to parent her siblings from a young age. Even when she’s pulled into Saxon’s life of luxury, she remains grounded, driven and still looks out for her siblings.
As always, I loved the mafia subplot in this. There’s a strong found family element to the story. All the women are welcoming towards Haisley, despite her history with “the family”. They supported her and helped her adjust to her new life. Even the men became protective of her once she became one of them.
The narration of this who series is amazing, but I especially loved this performance. I’ve heard Ryan Lee Dunlap on a few other books, but this one has to be my favourites of his so far. First off, I could not get over his Southern accent. Gosh, I need to fan myself, just thinking about it. His portrayal of Saxon was outstanding. His voicing of the other male characters was outstanding. He embodied the different personalities of each character and gave them distinct voices, and there were a lot of male voices. Vivienne La Rue is new to me and I really enjoyed her portrayal of the strong, caring Haisley.
I highly recommend this book if you’re looking for a quick spicy listen with a cinnamon roll mafia man who's also possessive, a strong, caring FMC who loves her family deeply, and an exciting suspense subplot.

🎧📚🎧 Abbi Glines continues to choose the perfect cast to bring her characters to life. Ryan Lee Dunlap and Vivienne La Rue did an amazing job voicing the characters and their portrayal of each was spot on. Dunlap nails it as Saxon, grasping every aspect of his personality, from his angst to his caring side and all in between and La Rue is just as fabulous in her role as Haisley, showcasing her personality perfectly. They set the right tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling every single one. These two made a great team, their voices and talent complement each other and their performance elevates this already fantastic story to another level. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to.
