Good book but narration is very annoying.

I enjoyed this story considerably more than I thought I would - it was a bit of a gamble.
The story, and setting, is excellent. It's 1992 and the Soviet Union is alive and kicking. Without ruining the story, the US is drawn into a conflict in the Persian Gulf. The story revolves around a US space station and the surveillance and military support it can provide to this conflict.
The story is fast-paced with plenty of action to keep the listener engaged - there's plenty of incidents involving, for example, carrier strike fleets under attack. There didnt seem any obvious gaps from this being an abridged story.
The narration is excellent, with characters really brought to life thanks to some decent (if corny!) Russian accents.
If I had to find a criticism, it's that I would like to have heard more about the main theatre of conflict - the Persian Gulf itself! Certainly it gets a fair amount of air time, but I'd happily listen to more on what was a well-researched, well played out cold war conflict.
Good story, good narration, good pace

This is what it's all about!

The writing style leads to some parts of it jumping forward in quite large jumps, and this meakes it feel a little disjointed at times.
All in all a good listen in the car its very easy to take in several sessions, plenty of good places to 'take a break.' It could have done with more filling in to give atmosphere, for me one to listen to and then forget not a revisit book.
great plot but a little over done

Audiobook length : 6 hours 34 minutes.
As someone who has physically read and enjoyed this book in the past, when I saw this book was abridged, I knew there would be differences, but not how many differences there would be and how much of the book has been cut out.
I found the bits of missing dialogue distracting.
I won't listen to this audio book again and will be returning it on Audible as soon as possible.
Some of the sections that were removed introduced characters and also some parts were extremely significant including action sequences. In one case, a whole month in the time of the story went past between scenes being read which really made it hard to understand what was happening especially as it involved one of the main characters.
There were several bits of dialogue which ended suddenly as if the narrator had just decided not to read the entire sentence or paragraph.
The narrator also didn't attempt to make different accents for each character, but only a few of them.
His Russian accents are awful.
This is a great space based military thriller when read in its original form and I won't hesitate to read the physical book in future, but this book is almost unrecognisable as the original book.
Badly abridged - doesn't make sense as its cut
