Nineteen-year-old April Wilton has just enlisted in the WRENs in Portsmouth, where she works servicing engines on ships. She finds herself immersed in dockyard life and surrounded by soldiers - from England and America.

The atmosphere is one of spontaneity and impulsiveness, brought on by the unpredictability of war. So when April meets Daniel, a young American soldier, whose mother is Sioux and father is of African descent, she doesn't hesitate when she starts to fall for him. I love Ellie Deans series of Cliffhaven. The narrator, Julie Maisey is one of the best, easily slipping from character to character. I shall be very sad when the series ends.

A very sad story about women falling in love with GI and then left to face the consequences afterwards alone and the attitude of others.
Lots of facts and information about the era. Loved this book as I have the others.

It was a lovely surprise to find Ellie Dean had written another book in this series. It was narrated beautifully as usual by Julie Maisey. Each book picks out a different difficult aspect of life during WW2, and this one concentrated on a story less covered by others in this genre. The outcome is often unsurprising but these books are written so well that I don't mind being able to guess even though I don't see how the story is going to get there because it is in the telling of the story that these books are little gems.

so glad I found these feel I know all these fictional characters in Cliffhaven and Beachview.
I cried at the last chapter, Ellis Dean is such a great writer.
