About this listen
Detective Inspector Munro is a burly Scottish policeman who doesn’t suffer fools gladly. Detective Sergeant West is an intelligent young woman, new to the force, with a lot to prove.
When a missing person case lands on their desks, Munro is skeptical there is much to it. But their investigation soon comes to some strange findings, and before long a body is found.
With a serial killer on their hands, they must act fast to trace a woman placed at the scene of the crime. Yet discovering her true identity, let alone finding her, proves difficult. And as the plot thickens they realise the crime is far graver than either of them could have imagined.

engaging listen
i found it initially difficult to workout who was who and their relation ship to the twists and turns to the plot, once sort of got to grip the story was fine.

The storyline was superb and the book well written, but the audio was atrocious! the narration was OK, but the audio dipped in and out like a badly tuned radio!

An odd book and poor narration
I found the narration really annoying. I was not a fan of the female voices which all sounded odd and the same..This took away from the story and I have stopped an hour before the end.

Strange ending
Quite an entertaining short book. However the ending was a little disappointing. Still worth a listen.

Could be better
Great characters ie the detectives , didn’t really care much about the killing part usually the killers or victim more interested in which wasn’t , still enjoyable , looking forward to next book

It was gripping eery and right till last minute shocking ! Munroe character didn’t disappoint and loved the fact it looped backed and connected to him to fill in his backstory

Some books are better read
I listen to audiobooks all day, every day while I work - and I do 12+ hours a day at least 6 days a week so that's a lot of listening! My favourite genre is crime fiction and I have listened to dozens of tartan noir books - so I know the good, the bad and the ugly!
This book is short for my mind - I certainly wouldn't pay for one this short - but it was included with my membership (thank you).
The narrator (to give him his due) has an awful lot to contend with here! (everything from a middle aged Scot, through females of all ages, to a male Londoner) and none of them quite work apart from the Scottish accent (which I guess is his natural voice and is simply lovely). The others are all quite painful and the reading style is slightly odd somehow but I can't quite put my finger on it. It probably isn't helped by the writing style though... which is also quite odd in places and there's so much "he said", "she said", that the word "said" started to grate on me!
The story itself (although I can't finish it) is probably better read in your head and not narrated. It just doesn't work (in my humble opinion). I see there are a handful of other books in this series and 2 different narrators - both being slated in reviews - so perhaps that adds weight to my theory? I don't know and I'm afraid I wont be finding out. I would, however (if I had time), READ another book in the series to see if that's any better.

struggled to finish
I was really enjoying it (although its pretty bad, but entertaining), until weirdly, in the last quarter, the writing to changed to where the characters didn't finish sentences. it was the most frustrating thing I've ever had to listen to.

A rather different serial Killer
Good story, well written with some interesting twists. I recommend it. Good reading too. Setting up for another?
