When Pixie Tate is summoned to the wild Cornish coast to investigate a mystery at St Sidwell Manor she senses that something malevolent is hiding in its shadows.

Over one hundred years ago, in the deepest night, a little boy vanished from his bed - and Pixie must find out what happened to him.

But Pixie is no ordinary detective. She has a unique gift: she can travel through time. As she slips back to 1895, secrets are revealed, love affairs exposed and, ultimately, Pixie will be forced to make a devastating choice that will change her life forever...

Wasn’t sure what to expect from this book but I was gripped from the start. Very different from other books by this author. I didn’t want it to end and envisaged what could happen for Pixie in other books. Hoping there will be more to read.
Superb narration.

Was fantastic from beginning to end. Kept in suspense from the onset. One of the best books I’ve listened to.

Great story

I always enjoy the writing of Santa and this was a lovely romantic read but it seems much shorter than her previous work and I was left feeling disappointed.

I was absolutely gripped by this story from start to finish. It was such a compelling premise, I loved the time slip aspect and was gripped by trying to work out what actually happened in the past. The romance aspect was wonderfully written and heartbreaking at the same time . This is my first Santa Montefiore novel but it certainly won’t be my last given how much I loved this book.

Addictive!

Santa Montefiore once again proves why she’s one of the most beloved voices in contemporary fiction with Shadows in the Moonlight—a richly woven tale of love, loss, and the enduring power of secrets held in the quiet corners of our lives.

Set against a backdrop of breathtaking landscapes and shifting timelines, the novel follows a cast of vividly drawn characters whose lives are as layered and complex as the story itself. Montefiore’s hallmark lyrical prose brings an atmospheric depth to the narrative, transporting readers into a world where emotions run deep and every moment feels touched by fate.

What makes Shadows in the Moonlight truly special is its emotional intelligence. Montefiore explores the nuances of grief, the slow burn of rekindled love, and the redemptive strength of forgiveness with grace and authenticity. Her characters are flawed, real, and utterly compelling, and their journeys resonate long after the final page is turned.

This is storytelling at its finest—elegant, heartfelt, and deeply immersive. Whether you’re a longtime fan or new to her work, Shadows in the Moonlight is a novel that will stay with you, lingering like the afterglow of moonlight on a quiet night.

Although I actually guessed what had happened, it really didn’t take away from such a beautiful story. Santa is such an absorbing writer and I really enjoy her books but this one was truly exceptional.

What a fantastic story!

At first it is a very strange book and one needs to return to the prologue to understand what is happening. But then you get caught up with the happenings in the past and the present and can’t stop listening! Looking forward to What Pixie Does Next!
