About this listen

Rule by head or rule by heart? Elinor Dashwood is a great believer in "sense," while her exuberant younger sister Marianne feels keenly that only "sensibility" (what today we'd call passion) serves to guide the heart. Through vicissitudes and, in the case of Marianne, outright betrayal by her lover, these two women learn the value in the other's outlook, and thereby prepare themselves for later domestic bliss that is the hallmark resolution of Jane Austen's novels.© and (P) Jimcin Recordings Classics Genre Fiction Historical Historical Fiction Literary Fiction Regency Heartfelt

Editor reviews

Told in refined and elegant British narration by Jill Masters, Jane Austen’s beloved comedy of manners, Sense and Sensibility, follows the Dashwood sisters and their distinctly varied perspectives on life and love and the pursuit of happiness.

Facing financial destitution due to the recent death of their father and a miserly half-brother, the practical Elinor and romantic Marianne struggle with the apparent step back in class and their dimming prospects of suitable marriage, even as they both fall wildly in love with two very different gentlemen.

A funny, heartfelt story of societal expectations and the support of sisters that’s stronger than oak.

Sense & Sensibility is the first of Jane Austin's books. It was written in 1795 when she was about 19.
As with all her books it is a wonderful combination of satire and humour.
Well worth the listening - but sadly - not with this reader.
