About this listen

A single terrible mistake cost David Hawkins everything. His marriage. His relationship with his daughter—and his career in the SAS. Now Hawkins is a man on the downward slope of life. Banished from the Regiment, relegated to a desk job at one of Britain's biggest private defence contractors, haunted by the memories of the past.

But when a talented young engineer dies in mysterious circumstances, Hawkins is sent down to Plymouth to investigate. Working alongside the company's new cyber-security expert, Alex Millar, Hawkins must find out who murdered the engineer—and why.

What begins as a straightforward case soon turns into a deadly manhunt, as Hawkins and Millar pursue their quarry from the streets of Liverpool to the Firth of Clyde, in a frantic race against time to expose a deadly conspiracy targeting the heart of the UK's defences. Win, and they'll prevent a terrifying attack. Fail, and Britain will be at the mercy of its deadliest enemy...

naive ex 22 ?, I don’t think so also the constant stereotypical characters having to be drunks not a good way of describing ex soldiers, Hawkins would not have made it the blades

Great to have an old character back in action. J Bald, legend! Good story. Ryan is a very good author.

Fantastic, highly recommend, slow to start but once it gets going it’s brilliant, wish it was longer

I love Chris Ryan books, but this edition felt rushed, predictable and very far-fetched at times.

It was full of killings and army communications, but it also identified how we do not know how many spies or sleepers carrying out Putins dirty work

How we are being fooled by Russia

A gripping thrilling book and written in the way of the world these days war is not just soldiers it’s more about people being killed. Who have no say in the outcomes of fighting each other.. That’s why books like this touch very close to reality. Well written.

The story and the truth of any war goes killing anyone.

Would work ok - even well as a holiday read but listening to it the almost endless cliches & repetition was painful. Add in annoying whining accents to complete the picture.
Typical would be “ they went over what they had learned “ “ they repeated what they had discovered “ etc etc

Ok to read . Awful to listen to
