Disappointing ending , but good story, Mary always created relatable strong characters, overall a good read

Good story

As usual, Anna Massey's narration was superb. I tried to stay engaged with the characters and the plot, but somehow, everyone involved in Laura's life appeared remote, and I could not really empathise with any of them, even Laura. I felt rather depressed at the end, as it evoked the message that everything is meaningless. Probably just me!
