About this listen
The instant Sunday Times bestseller, Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel investigates the idea of parallel worlds and possibilities, and plays with the very line along which time should run.
Lives separated by time and space have collided, and an exiled Englishman, a writer trapped far from home, and a girl destined to die too young, have each glimpsed a world that is not their own. Travelling through the centuries, between colonies on the moon and an ever-changing Earth, together their lives will solve a mystery that will make you question everything you thought you knew to be true.
From the award-winning author of Station Eleven.

Perfect plotting, picaresque personae and an entertaining performance
This is a beautifully constructed story, interplaying between distinct time zones and different people, eventually pulling together into what could well be described as a ‘singularity’. The descriptions of each character are engaging and the threads of the tapestry of the tale are very cleverly interwoven. The narrators have been well chosen for their voice timbre and performance. This is a brilliant piece of writing which has a background question interweaving throughout the warp and weft of personal histories and historical progression: never answered ultimately, but defined in the conclusion. Well worth the listen.

Another clever, poignant and mesmerising story of stories
It isn’t easy to have such a personal style and not repeat oneself, especially with characters and stories bleeding from one novel to the next. St. John Mandel manages this and more. Through little scene snippets, the listener pieces together a compelling story that acts as the context for the myriad stories we glimpse into.

Fantastic story line
Not my usual read / listen but was immediately immersed in the story and the character narration. The
multiple sorry tellers absolutely added to the enjoyment. Fully deserves the acclaim and awards this book has revived, best start again.

Believable time travel, great story
Really enjoyed this. I like the way the different timelines come together and the decision to use different narrators for each works very well.

Wistful, sense of aloneness
Beautifully written, love the slow and gradual unspiralling of the story. When the ending came I had a sense of both "wow" and "of course", the perfect ending.

Capturing!
Such a beautiful story, I loved this from beginning to end and the ending is just as beautiful as the rest of it.

I found it pretty sad and not engaging
Although an interesting read, I ultimately found it pretty sad. The conclusion was also pretty predictable. Mixed feelings

Good ambition but leaves you wanting
Loved the storytelling and performance of the readers. However the story falls short in focusing on less interesting parts of the story and not providing any satisfying answers to other parts.

A different take on pandemic stories
I liked the different characters but felt there was too little time spent on the three from different periods. They were well enough written that I wanted to spend more time with them. The story came together neatly at the end but I cared less about the time traveller and found him a bit naive and harder to believe in.
