Molière verzichtet auch in diesem Spiel nicht auf bewährte Lustspieleffekte und das obligatorische Finale. Das unerwartet Neue an dieser Komödie, der Vorrang der Konversation vor der üblichen drastischen Bühnenhandlung, gab Anlass zu einem heftigen Literaturstreit.
