About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Scattered Minds explodes the myth of attention deficit disorder as genetically based - and offers real hope and advice for children and adults who live with the condition.

Gabor Maté is a revered physician who specializes in neurology, psychiatry and psychology - and himself has ADD. With wisdom gained through years of medical practice and research, Scattered Minds is a must-listen for parents - and for anyone interested how experiences in infancy shape the biology and psychology of the human brain.

Scattered Minds:

- Demonstrates that ADD is not an inherited illness, but a reversible impairment and developmental delay

- Explains that in ADD, circuits in the brain whose job is emotional self-regulation and attention control fail to develop in infancy - and why

- Shows how 'distractibility' is the psychological product of life experience

- Allows parents to understand what makes their ADD children tick, and adults with ADD to gain insights into their emotions and behaviours

- Expresses optimism about neurological development even in adulthood

- Presents a programme of how to promote this development in both children and adults

This book has made such a difference to my life.
Clear and concise review, taking the reader through the journey of an individual with ADD.

Thank you Gabor Mate for taking the time to put together such a profound piece of work.

Life changing book

The most useful information for me was learning that a big reason why I am distracted is because my emotional needs aren’t being met.

Definitely worth reading if you have ADHD

What a book. As an ADHD adult, this book talked to me.
Every example, every story, every solution... it was like talking to an oracle who helps me understand my brain. I will be relistening again for sure.

lifesaver

A compassionate and understanding source of information regarding ADD (aka ADHD), by an individual who has personal experience of dealing with ADD.

Few others have made the connection between Genetics and Environment regarding this condition and I believe in time Gabor Matè will be celebrated for his pioneering work in this field.

I loved that in this work. Gabor explores the true nature of ADD, and in so doing offers a road through the confusing nature of the state of mind, and a light at the end of the tunnel for those searching for answers for either themselves or their children, or both. A truly wonderful and enlightening read.

Insightful and extraordinarily transparent

Chapter 25 is one of the most impactful chapters of a book I have ever read/listened to. Hugely liberating and contains many penny drop moments.

Amazingly insightful and enlightening. Gabor has a way of explaining complex matters in an easily understandable way. Genius!

what a journey and joy , which has given myself, great insight into a great deal of my own question and situation in life. it's given me a better understanding of the lack of physical, intellectual, emotional and social/ spiritual support as a young developing child I wasn't given throughout my entire life, it also have given me a greater understanding of why I am driven to seek attention and love in relationships as an adult. The inner child within me still crys for the love and affection that was witheld from all care givers in my life.
If you were raised from a broken home or in a single parent or raised by someone else, this book may help you understand that ,what you feel and crave isn't because your broken it's cause from the lack of love and affection.

An eye opener
