About this listen

West Berlin, 1979. Helen Abell oversees the CIA's network of safe houses, rare havens amidst the dangerous milieu of a city in the grips of the Cold War. Helen's world is upended when she overhears a meeting between two people speaking a coded language that hints at shadowy realities far beyond her comprehension. It was a good listen and the changes in the timing of the pieces of the plot was well handled. The murkiness of what goes on in the name of democracy and security never ceases to amaze. The was a bit of a damp squib.

the plot is obvious from the beginning to the listener but not so much to the characters in the story. it's still animtersting listen though but with little mystery

This spy thriller & murder mystery has plenty of twists & turns. The author narrates & I found him pleasant & engaging to listen to. I will seek out his other work having enjoyed this so much.

The performance is great and the story ticks along at a decent pace switching between two time periods that are interwoven.

I enjoyed the spy element more than the mystery, and felt a little rushed toward the end, but overall a good story.

The author is clearly an accomplished writer and captured the flavour of the late 1970, or at least my memory of it. It’s not an all out ‘guns and bodies’ thriller, but an intelligent adventure.
