I met Rob Walker Brown with my father who had served on Op Gallia with him and had huge respect for Rob
They never talked about it or any other operation other than the odd funny comments
Rob remarked to me one day that the most exhilarating time of his life was fishing for sea trout in Donegal Bay! Typically self effacing comment and diversionary tactic employed by them both.

Unbelievable account of what was happening behind enemy lines, of which is rarely told or heard until now. very well narrated

The author has written and interesting an enjoyable account of a little known from World War II. Anyone interested in military history or in particular the role and bravery of the special forces will find this a good read.
What is disturbing is the tactics employed by the establishment to subjugate the role played by the partisans and SF in their important role to aid the allies on the Italian front.
Nonetheless it is humbling to read this account of many heroes of different nationalities that fought for freedom. May they all receive the true recognition they deserve.

These were the finest of men and the greatest of leaders. Their success lives on in those that survived the atrocities they fought against and in their sons and daughters and on through time in the survivors families who live on through the generations.

So many lives owed to so few hero’s

This is my first Damien Lewis book and it won’t be my last. The story (and narration ) was fast paced, exhilarating, and held my attention for hours on end. Highly recommended!

One of the best audiobooks I’ve listened to in a long time

Let’s just hope the world never forgets the horrors of war. Too many lives were lost in the last two wars. There will always be leaders and hero’s but we need them to keep the world at peace.
This was a great book.
We are visiting FRANCE and last weekend went deep into the woods to a memorial celebration where the French resistance hero’s were massacred and remembered. There were hundreds of people there.
Let’s remember and never make the same mistakes again.
I strongly recommend this book and author.

I loved the book, though I got a bit lost in the beginning. It was very interesting to learn about the organisation of the partisans in Italy, as well as details about the important battles happening behind the curtains (officers on the ground vs high command). I loved the ending, and the author comments on the "gratitude" of the army towards their officers.

A story of the SOE and SAS in Italy towards the end of the war. Tales of daring do a plenty but also describing the personalities and operations that go on before the firefight.
A slow and scholarly work well delivered.
