About this listen

In the heart of rural Afghanistan, where tradition holds tightly to silence and obedience, a young girl named Bahar dares to dream of something more.

Run is a deeply moving and beautifully written novel that follows the journey of Bahar, a girl born into a society where women are expected to remain quiet, hidden, and unquestioning. Raised by her loving mother and wise grandmother, Bahar is surrounded by strength but also by the weight of a culture that limits her voice.

As she grows, Bahar’s thirst for education, freedom, and self-worth deepens. Her life becomes a reflection of countless girls who are forced to choose between tradition and transformation. With each chapter, we witness Bahar’s growth—from a curious child to a determined young woman committed to shaping her identity despite the challenges she faces.

Set against the backdrop of Afghan village life, this novel explores themes of gender, family, love, education, and resilience. Bahar’s story represents the many untold stories of girls who quietly carry the burden of expectation while nurturing bold dreams in their hearts.

A very atmospheric novel that wish was just a far fetched fantasy story. It’s placed in a rural village in Afghanistan where women are punished for just being women and have no voices and just treated as commodities by the closest male relative. This is tribute to every girl who dared not to obey that “norm” and break their cage/jail. Bahar is lovely girl who dared to dream, work for her dreams and love someone that her uncle didn’t approve. She simply dared to say no.

It’s a very emotional novel so make sure you’ve got tissues near you. I absolutely loved it and would highly recommend it.
