This is a brilliantly written and performed story of one girl’s coming of age in a poor, rural, American family. The main character, Molly is determined and uncompromising, always following her own path, no matter how other people might disapprove. The book is moving at times, sexy, sweary and often funny. Molly can see the ridiculous things that people often do, and their hypocrisy, with breathtaking clarity.

I was entranced from the start and have recommended it to several friends. I expect I’ll listen to it again, as I wanted to stay with magnificent Molly for much longer.

Absolutely brilliant coming of age tale

This is so well read and such a ground breaking, seminal LGBTQ+ text. I was uncomfortable with some of the language with regards to race but it’s doesn’t come from the main character, it comes from a side character who isn’t all that full of love.
A definite listen.

Incredible

I've read this book years ago and listening to it no was actually better than reading. The narrating is so good.

So well read

One of my fave LGBTQIA+ novels. Molly Bolt is such an amazing character. Really enjoyed the narration too. Would recommend.
One small grievance : the introduction counts as Chapter 1 so the real Chapter 1 comes up as Chapter 2 and so forth. This annoyed me a little.

A Classic

I found it slow to start with but once I got into it, it really picked up. I really enjoyed the story and how it's still relatable now.

Really enjoyed
