About this listen
Prince Xander has one job to do: become king. Unfortunately, that means the confirmed bachelor must find a bride.
Engaging the help of an elite matchmaking service guarantees finding a suitable wife. What he didn’t expect was to be friend-zoned by one of the ladies...especially when she’s the first woman to spark his soul.
When Ariana loses her job in a NYC PR firm, she heads to London following her dream of becoming a romance writer. A friend’s matchmaking service is the perfect starting spot for research into royal love lives. Swearing off men was supposed to be easy, until Prince Xander asks for help.
Monarchy, matchmaking, and murder entangle Xander and Ariana in a dangerous plot. Will it turn their friendship into forever love, or will fate keep them apart?
This is book two in the series, but it can be listened to as a stand-alone. HEA guaranteed.

I listen to a lot of audiobooks and I cannot stress how much I enjoyed these two narrators. The display of talent by Stephanie Nemeth-Parker was impressive. She was voicing so many different female characters, many times in one scene together, all with a wide range of accents, and she did so flawlessly. John Hartley had the perfect tone and attitude to play the prince, and he brought it all to life so well. I highly recommend this one in audio!!

Royally Deceived is Ariana and Xander's story, the second book within the Lover Over Murder series. It's not necessary to have read the first in the series. I think I may have liked this story more if I hadn't read the first one, but only because there are a lot of similarities between the first two stories. I did still enjoy listening to this one.
I received a copy of the audiobook at my request and the opinions here are my own.

🎤John Hartley & Stephanie Nemeth-Parker🎤 made an incredible duo performing this story. It’s a dual narration which allows each narrator to showcase their versatility and both of them have it in spades! John Hartley’s deep British sensual voice was perfection for Xander, and his style is one that is perfect for mystery and suspense! I adored Stephanie as Ariana and she too was very versatile and pulled off the British accents really well! I never once had a #twitchy moment! 👏👏👏👏
I really hope that JD Carothers has a ton of stories in her head that she will one day turn into books that I will read or audiobooks that I will listen to because I like her style! It’s so fresh, unique and easy. Take this story for example. We have “royals and commoners” being matched up and it’s done in a way where the “royal” aspect doesn’t even take center stage. It’s just two people traveling the path to HEA. At least, that’s how it felt for me, and it was refreshing! And it was even fun and endearing, even with the mystery plot points and twisty-twists running amok!
Ther’s just so much to love about this story that I don’t know where to begin. Aside from my complete and utter bliss listening to this story, I love the path that Carothers chose for Xander & Ariana. It’s a slow-burn friendship-to-more kind of journey and it was perfect for both of their circumstances. It would not have worked any other way. As a matter of fact, done any other way would have come across as forced and rushed. Without giving away the plot, there’s a similarity to the television show “The Batchelor” that surrounds this story, and the activities/outings are what bring Xander & Ariana closer and closer without either one really knowing it is happening. Ariana because she is actually not looking for a love match and Xander because he in fact must find a love match or any kind of match! Friendship, passion and a solid connection found them even when they weren’t looking for it and it all made my heart very happy!
The story held a good balance between mystery and romance with neither being shortchanged in my opinion. I can’t say that I didn’t see “some” things coming, but for the most part, I was left guessing and intrigued by most of the mystery. And even as the “secrets” all started to come out and unravel I was still invested in the outcome of the story. It’s not really a straightforward type of story which of course is yet another point in its favor, after all, it’s a romantic suspense so …
I did a binge-listen of these three stories, and I know there are a ton of reviewers that say this story, and really all three stories stand on their own nicely, but no, no they do not. If you want to capture the “Royals story arc” that is part of all three stories, you will get the best experience if you start from the very beginning with Rival Secrets. Do with that information what you will :)

Royally Deceived is book two in the Love Over Murder series. We got to get a slight glimpse of soon to be King Xander, at the end of book one. Xander needs to marry to become King. Ariana has just lost her job and fleas to London to fill her dream as a writer. Xander is desperate and finds a matchmaking company to help his search for a bride. The only problem now is the first woman to catch his eye wants nothing to do with him.
Stephanie Nemeth-Parker and John Hartley did an amazing job narrating this book.

John Hartley and Stephanie Nemeth-Parker are incredible together as they tell this story. Hartley's voice is smooth, slightly regal and warm. I loved him as Xander, working through all the things he went through. Nemeth-Parker is so good as Ariana. She comes in with a mission, and does her best to not fall for the prince. The emotions are spot on. Together, they created a magic between the couple and an amazing suspenseful story.
Love Xander & Ariana!

The suspense & romance in this story were both done so well. Cassie is a great lead. She is smart, kind, talented & she is so genuine.
She is excited for the adventure of being Las Vegas, & is content to just enjoy herself.
Evan is struggling with his place in life, he is feeling like his role in his family isn’t fulfilling, he wants to be able to do more, so he ends up going to see one of his best friends in Vegas.
Cassie & Evan are drawn to each other, and their chemistry is palpable. I love that when things get intense Evan has Cassie’s back and they work together to help find the answer.
The narration was absolutely brilliant!
Suspenseful & Sweet
