Thrilling and Creepy With A Killer Twist
🧡 A married couple spending the weekend in a remote house in the Scottish Highlands. If you think it sounds like the start of a horror film, you’re not far off. This is equal parts horror and thriller.
💚 There is a brilliant balance of a solid backstory of Adam and Amelia’s marriage on one hand and the sheer sinister creepiness of their current predicament. How did they get to that point? What changed? And what was rotten all along? Wanting answers to these questions drove me on.
💛 The twist is a bonus cherry on top of it all. It is so clever, so unexpected. And yet it hangs well with the rest of the story.
💜 I loved my first Alice Feeny listen, Sometimes I Lie and this was every bit as phenomenal. I’ve added His & Hers to my TBR.

SOUNDBITE
🎧 Stephanie Racine and Richard Armitage are simply brilliant narrators. Expressive and authentic to my ears. Many reviewers were fairly critical of Racine’s performance. So I went back to check if I had missed something. I remain at a loss. Best thing to do is listen to the sample before buying. But if you've listened to other Alice Feeney books, you'll be familiar with Racine's work.
🎧 This is a full on listen that requires close attention. Lots of moving parts, characters and plot points you could miss if you drift off.

Brilliant!
I really enjoyed this audio book, the female narrator took a little getting used to but after a chapter or two I got used to her voice. As the story unfolds I couldn't get enough of it, I loved the setting in Scotland and also the flashbacks.. thoroughly enjoyed!

So good
Great winter read/listen. This is a great creepy, atmospheric book, with a few layers to it. I enjoyed the narrators. I have no idea why the complaints about Ms Racine’s narration, it is actually really good and refreshing after listening to others, often good actors who have no nuance in their reading at all.

yes yes it was thrilling, but
I liked the story and was eager to learn the "truth" - a word that means something different for every character in the book, which is ok and leaves you to draw your own conclusion. Fine by me, but the way the story spun out in the end?
Spoiler!:
You have nightmares all your life, as you were present when you mom was killed by a hid and run accident, but can't conjure any faces related to the accident. years later, you find out, your wife was in that car - I, as a reader, always wondered why the boy who hadnt't walked the dog, so his mom had to do it,was there at the time of the accident.- in the end itt turns out, he was the driver - remembered it all along, but blamed the wife and slept peacefully through the night once she was dead. WTF?
Also the character was pathetic as a "hero" figure. Main characters are introduced as a red hering, but are left so bare and you whished there would have been a better story with about and after them.
There are more smaller things, but nothing like the hid and run solution bothered me the most and made me question the whole sense of the plot. The reader where great and its a joy to follow them -but avoid deeper thoughts!

Not really my thing
If you’re after a horror story with lots of twists, then this is probably a pretty good example. If I’d known what was coming, I wouldn’t have chosen this, but it passed the time quite well. I do love Richard Armitrage’s narration, so that helped!

Love!
So many twists and turns! Fantastically written and brilliantly delivered, I absolutely loved it. I almost gave up after 30 mins, it started a bit slow. But then listened to the full book in a day. I just couldn’t put it down! So glad I carried on! Loved it, what an author!

Kept Me Guessing
Fabulous narrators - Stephanie Racine and Richard Armitage. A book to rival His & Hers but more twists, more detail, just more of everything I love about Alice Feeney. I knocked off one star because I felt like it could have done with a bigger, more jaw dropping, final twist...I wanted a little more of an OMG moment.

Couldn’t get on with it
I really wanted to love this book as I loved Alice Feeney’s first novel so much. But I just couldn’t get on with this. The male voice was really annoying, I think I would’ve got a better feel for this book if I’d have read it rather than listened as I just kept getting irritated every time it was the male chapters. The twist would’ve been good if I had been invested but to be honest it was just a bit underwhelming.
