After the death of his fiancee due to medical errors, hospital pharmacist Daniel O'Dwyer escapes to Oak Island, North Carolina. The only things on his mind are fresh sea air, fresh seafood, Fat Tire Amber Ale, and the avoidance of any type of healthcare institution. But fate and jellyfish draw him back, and reluctantly, he agrees to go undercover to combat narcotic drug diversion at nearby Boiling Grove Community Hospital.

With minimal assistance from Willie, his socially imbalanced sidekick, Daniel must navigate through dangerous situations and wild characters, including a brawny redneck with a Bob Marley tattoo; a foreign physician with batlike qualities; and a lackluster human resources director with a penchant for mai tais and Ebenezer Scrooge.

This was an unusual book but quirky and interesting enough to keep me listening. There is not a murder or even a death in this book, despite the number of times the main character found himself ending up in hospital. Instead are accident prone hero investigates a drug problem in the hospital, here he stumbles along and discovers clues as to how it is being done. There is plenty of old school pop culture which reference music, films and tv programs disguised as banter between the main character and his best friend. Who is very quirky. I felt like the mystery didn't really get any where but at the same time the pace was set nicely with a lot of hospital drama to keep me listening and of course the bad guy reveals himself when he tries to take out the hero.

A drug problem in the hospital where Daniel works meant when his wife goes in for routine treatment the drug she needs isn't available and she dies from complications. Unable to cope with her death he moves to experience a quite island life. An unexpected encounter with a jelly fish has he visiting the local hospital. He soon discovers the drug problem isn't just limited to his old hospital and When the administration ask for his help he goes under cover as house keeping to root out the problem. Can Daniel discover how to live and love again while tracking down what's happening at the hospital or will some make his visit to accident and emergency something a little bit more permanent?

I liked the narrator. Some of the voices where unusual and squeaky but somehow it was just right for the characters.
