About this listen

From award-winning author Rachel Lacey comes a playful romance about a Manhattan bookstore owner and a reclusive author who love to hate - and hate to love - each other.

Books are Rosie Taft’s life. And ever since she took over her mother’s beloved Manhattan bookstore, they’ve become her home too. The only thing missing is her own real-life romance like the ones she loves to read about, and Rosie has an idea of who she might like to sweep her off her feet. She’s struck up a flirty online friendship with lesbian romance author Brie, and what could be more romantic than falling in love with her favorite author?

Jane Breslin works hard to keep her professional and personal lives neatly separated. By day, she works for the family property development business. By night, she puts her steamier side on paper under her pen name: Brie. Jane hasn’t had much luck with her own love life, but her online connection with a loyal reader makes Jane wonder if she could be the one.

When Rosie learns that her bookstore’s lease has been terminated by Jane’s family’s business, romance moves to the back burner. Even though they’re at odds, there’s no denying the sparks that fly every time they’re together. When their online identities are revealed, will Jane be able to write her way to a happy ending, or is Rosie’s heart a closed book?

“Lacey rounds out the romance with a lively cast of friends and family, and a wintry backdrop. A quick story perfect for a cozy night in.”Publishers Weekly

I loved this romance - Read Between the Lines. It was so good I delayed getting to the end. Rosie and Jane were great characters and there was so much chemistry between them. I loved the chaos with Rosie’s bookshop and I loved the conflict Jane brought. Brilliant romance!

Brilliant!

The first four chapters of this story seemed to almost be fanfiction of You Got Mail, which turned me off of the book a little if I’m honest. However, once the story got going I was quickly invested.

I thought all the characters were well-rounded and I cared about them all and their own narratives. I felt the relationship development between the two protagonists was natural and held chemistry.

I enjoyed how the novel poked fun at itself with its various You Got Mail references (once I got past that fanfiction feeling) - the author clearly has a sense of humour.

In terms of the narrator, as a Brit, the fake English accent was off-putting at the beginning but I learned to tolerate it as I continued to listen. Other than that, I felt the voice acting was excellent. I really felt that emotion.

Overall, great read, minimal angst and well-written intimate scenes. Recommended.

Slow start but great read!

Cute and fun, though a bit slow in the middle. Found the narration a bit flat for my tastes, which made it a little hard to get emotionally invested. Also the over-the-top fake British accent for Leah got on my nerves and made her sound way too posh. Otherwise, I enjoyed it.

An enjoyable light read

It's my second book written by Rachel Lacey and it's absolutely brilliant, it's the tipe of cheesy story with a good and happy ending, worth the time

Briliant

I loved the characters and story in this book and the writing is beautifully descriptive.
My only issue was the non authentic English accent of one character. As a Brit it was quite annoying but didn’t spoil the story. Abby Craden’s narration otherwise is beautiful.

Lovely enthralling story

Loved the story, the writing style and the general feel of the book.
Possibly unpopular, but by the end I couldn’t stand Rosie. Doesn’t often happen, but this is one story where I didn’t want them to end up together.

Amazing! Except one thing..

I enjoyed this book, a nice easy listen the only thing is the lady narrating the book did the worst British accent I’ve ever heard for one of the characters :/// which made it quite distracting but other then that good :)

Good story, bad British accent

Really great story and for the most part excellent performance and narration. However, particularly painful as a Brit… the British accent is truly atrocious and distracting - thankfully a minor character in this book if not I would have given up on it otherwise. Glad to see an alternative narrator for the sequel where the British character takes a main role!

Loved the story… but the British accent!

A beautiful and heartwarming enemies to lovers lesbian novel is now one of my top faves of the genre! The British accent used for one of the background characters was a bit overdone, being British myself, but was quite funny whenever the accent did switch.

Might be my new fave comfort book
