There are hard times ahead for the Harpers Girls...

1914 Oxford Street, London

It is two years since Harpers Emporium opened its doors and life is good for Sally and Ben Harper as they look forward to the arrival of their first child.

Beth Burrows is settling into married life with Jack and is gradually recovering from her miscarriage and Aunt’s tragic death.

Harpers welcomes some new faces and they all become part of the daily life at the busy store.

However, whilst the sun is shining on the streets of London, dark clouds gather over Europe as war looms threatening rainy days for the girls…

A heart-warming saga following the lives, loves and losses of the Harpers Girls.
Perfect for fans of Lizzie Lane, Pam Howes and Dilly Court.

I don't really like Polly Esdsel's different accsents. I've listened to the previous books & I didn't think Marco had that strong accent. As stated in the book he had an English name. Also Sally was cockney & tried to cover up her cockney but Polly makes it very posh. I also don't like Rachel's voice. But overall I'm enjoying the book.

Polly Esdsel's accent.

After getting used to all the characters and their voices in the first two Harpers Girls books why did they have to change the storyteller. Everybody’s voices suddenly changed from ordinary Londoners and sounded like members of upper class posh people, nothing like the first two books, utterly spoiled it for me. A good series spoiled.

Spoilt by narrator

I loved the first and second book, so paid for the 3rd. The narration is awful, the accents have all changed and I can't really figure out who's who. sadly I've had to give up on it. I won't be purchasing the next. I understand that people change jobs but you should really research the accents and get to know the characters. shame.

lovely

Sorry to say that I agree with others - the narrator has changed the characters voices - they now sound quite comical and I have been put off reading the next book!

Not as well narrated as previous books

I was really disappointed with this one. There was loads of padding to stretch the story out and the narration was very patchy. It was fine for the main script but when the narrator tried to speak in the voices of the characters it was woeful. The squeaky strangulated voices were very distracting. The cockney voices were fine but the imitations of the late Queen mother ruined the book.

Thin story and poor narration

the first 2 books were brilliantly narrated, but this book was annoying 😑 irritating voice

Awful narrating.

I am loving the story line but I do wish that the narrator hadn't changed as I really prefer the ascents of the book 1 and 2 narrator. I wouldn't bother with the last two books because of the ascents but I live the story and need to know how the 'Harper Girls' get on :)

Brilliant

the narrator absolutely ruined this booked. The character's voices, accents and intonation were just terrible.

absolutely ruined by the narrator

After reading the first two books in the series I was so disappointed with this reading. Story was great but the narrator was awful. The accents were all wrong! Mr Markel sounded Mexican!! Such a shame as I see the narrator is the same in the next book which will put me off listening.

Narrator didn’t know the characters!

Why change narrators? New narrator obviously hadn’t listened to previous books. The window dresser suddenly developed a very strong Eastern European accent even though he was brought up by his English mother in England? Sally brought up in an orphanage suddenly turned into lady Diana. Ben and Jenni often forget to be American, And some of other characters’ voices became so highly pitched and squeaky they hurt my ears! I love this series of books but boy this one was hard work to listen to.

Poor narration. Shame to spoil a good series
