I Racconti di un pellegrino russo è un testo pubblicato per la prima in Russia nel 1881 da un abate di Kazan che lo aveva ricopiato da un manoscritto del monte Athos.

Il protagonista è un pellegrino che attraversa la Russia portando con sé pane, la Bibbia, un vecchio libro che gli era stato indicato da un maestro spirituale(starets) ovvero la Filocalia(una raccolta di testi di ascetica e mistica della Chiesa cristiana ortodossa), e recitando continuamente la famosissima preghiera del Nome di Gesù.
