Bei einem Flugzeugabsturz soll auch der Rechtsanwalt Severin Masur unter den Opfern sein. Privatdetektiv Cross war diesem zu ersten Mal im Jahre 1945 begegnet und ihm damals versprochen, ihm bei seiner Suche nach seinem im Krieg beschlagnahmten Familienschmuck zu helfen. Cross setzt sich auf die Fährte und versucht mit Hilfe seines Freundes Stoneway, die verlorenen Stücke wiederzubeschaffen. Eine spannende Jagd durch die Wirren des Zweiten Weltkriegs beginnt... Die Hörspielinszenierung von Hans Gertberg (u.a. "Gestatten, mein Name ist Cox") gehört zu den Klassikern des Kriminalhörspiels. Als Sprecher agiert unter anderem Heinz Drache (bekannt aus Edgar Wallace-Filmen).
