About this listen

Jack was never “right,” but that’s a lot of what made him magnetic to other people. When he was younger, he was that guy that girls wanted to be around. People were drawn in by him, even later on when there wasn’t much of him left. I never understood that. He never really put a lot of energy into grooming and maintaining relationships with people. I guess when you see someone that is content spending their time alone, it creates a vacuum and people flood in like water choking a storm drain.

Even as his deterioration became apparent, people threw him lifelines. The tragedy of Jack was that he always seemed so close to salvageable. If you loved him, and I did, you could never stop trying to pull him back into the lifeboat, but you just couldn’t. He was always just out of reach. It would have been easier to cut him loose if he was just an obvious lost cause. The fact that the world left him behind is no reason to ignore his existence. It’s the opposite. The fact that the world left him behind is the reason someone needs to tell his story.

Transgressive author Christopher J. Stockwell's absurdist and satirical take on transgressive fiction goes beyond the confined by norms paradigm and into the gutter.

This legal satire is wickedly entertaining! Stockwell nails the absurdity of Seattle's law scene with a perfect mix of snark and spice. Maria, Ben, and Erin's tangled office drama had me hooked. It's like "The Office" meets "Suits" with an edgy twist. If you're tired of predictable romance, this one's deliciously different!

Stockwell’s satirical style hits all the right notes—balancing sharp wit, complex character relationships, and a storyline that dives headfirst into the surreal world of high-stakes legal battles, both in and out of the courtroom.

Maria, Ben, and Erin are such well-drawn characters. Each brings a unique tension to the narrative: Maria with her grounded perspective, Ben with his blue-collar resentment, and Erin's never-ending pursuit of impossible expectations. Their lives collide in ways that are both absurd and surprisingly relatable, showing the rawness and grit behind those polished city-office facades. Stockwell takes aim at social class, office politics, and personal ambition with humor that’s edgy, thought-provoking, and just a bit over the top—exactly what makes it such a fresh and enjoyable listen.

The characters are wonderfully layered, with Maria’s grounded perspective, Ben’s restless ambition, and Erin’s struggle for identity creating a dynamic interplay. The blend of courtroom drama and personal chaos makes for a story that’s as entertaining as it is thought-provoking. Its sharp take on class, ambition, and societal expectations adds depth without sacrificing humor. If you enjoy stories that break away from the usual romance tropes, this one is a refreshing and unforgettable listen.

Each character brings their own quirks and baggage, making for a dynamic, at times chaotic, ensemble cast. Maria’s grounded nature, Ben’s unyielding chip on his shoulder

I enjoyed this story, as I found it entertaining, and I enjoyed the satirical sense of humor that the writer has implemented. We get to know Ben, Maria, and Erin throughout the book, and I liked that we get to be part of their current life and peek into their past and upbringing. This background info gives a much deeper understanding of the characters, their motivation, and what makes them tick - highly recommended if you are looking for an entertaining story with a bit of satirical humor sprinkled throughout it.

ity Attorney’s Office: Book One: Professional Camouflage is a clever, witty dive into the world of Seattle’s legal scene, and it’s anything but typical. Christopher J. Stockwell manages to mix sharp satire with just the right amount of romance and absurdity, making the characters feel real and ridiculously entertaining at the same time. Maria, Ben, and Erin are such layered, relatable characters—dealing with the daily grind, workplace drama, and personal baggage in a way that’s both funny and painfully true. The legal backdrop adds tension, but the real magic is in the banter and the little battles they face inside and outside the office. It’s a fresh, fun read that gives you a laugh while capturing those awkward, complex parts of life we don’t always talk about. Highly recommend if you’re into smart, satirical takes on romance and office politics!

My cup of tea!
