About this listen

Jane Austen’s most popular novel, originally published in 1813, some 17 years after it was first written, presents the Bennet family of Longbourn. Against the background of gossipy Mrs. Bennet and the detached Mr. Bennet, the quest is on for husbands for the five daughters. The spotlight falls on Elizabeth, second eldest, who is courted by Mr. Darcy, though initially she is more concerned with the fate of her other sisters. This marvelous account of family life in Regency England is read with customary panache by Juliet Stevenson.

An excellent performance by Juliet Stephenson..

Obviously, one knows this tale well, but Juliet Stephenson reads it with such skill that I listened to it with much enjoyment!!
I intend to download both Austen’s & Stephenson’s work, thus amusing myself on long journeys…

Love It❤️📚📖

I absolutely love Jane Austin. Pride and Prejudice has a slightly complicated storyline at times but the language is so beautiful you can just let it wash over you like music. The performance is amazing, all of the character voices suit their personalities perfectly. Overall it is one of (in my opinion) one of the best books ever written and the performance does it justice perfectly!

It was close to perfect. Highly recommended.

Purely the coughing instead of the place names and even one time the character name but just a very minor irritant.

A Real Treat!

If I could have made one request of an audiobook it would have been to have my favourite book of all time read by my favourite female narrator. I sat and listened at every opportunity during one week. It will not be the last time I listen as the reading of Pride and Prejudice has been something I have done every few years. To have it read by Juliet Stevenson whilst cooking or knitting was, for me, bliss.
On the critical side I would say Jane’s voice was a little too simpering for me but it didn’t detract from the overall experience.
So worth the credit!

A superb reading

A superb version.
The novel itself is flawless of course and if you haven’t already read it then what on earth are you thinking…
Juliet Stevenson brings real understanding to the characters and I’ve enjoyed several of her audio books now, her reading of Jane Eyre was also very good.
I will definitely look for more of her work.

Completely superb

I have loved Jane Austen since my early teens. I am now in my 70’s and, with eye problems, now tend to go to Audible for my yearly re-visit of her works.
The wonderful Juliet Stevenson’s reading has been a complete revelation! Her understanding of period, the interplay of the various characters and her highlighting of the carefully observed humour inherent in many of Jane’s works, have been such a joy. I think even the author herself would approve!
Thank you!

Enticing old favourite overbore finicky reviews

So glad the allure of this old favourite meant I decided to take a chance on this audio book. Juliet Stevenson reads it beautifully, so much so that I have laughed out loud! Such a delightful experience in the dark days of shielding. Can't recommend highly enough.
