About this listen

Actor David Suchet recalls his experience of playing Agatha Christie's world-famous detective, Hercule Poirot, for almost a quarter of a century.

In the summer of 2013 David Suchet filmed his final scenes as Hercule Poirot. After 24 years in the role, he will have played the character in every story that Agatha Christie wrote about him (bar one, deemed unfilmable) and he will bid adieu to a role and a character that have changed his life.

In Poirot and Me, David Suchet tells the story of how he secured the part, with the blessing of Agatha Christie's daughter, and set himself the task of presenting the most authentic Poirot that had ever been filmed. David Suchet is uniquely placed to write the ultimate companion to one of the world's longest running television series.

Peppered with anecdotes about filming, including many tales of the guest stars who have appeared over the years, the book is essential for Poirot fans all over the world.

So enjoyable

David Suchet IS Poirot. It's great to hear his voice again, telling his story - it's like having all those grand mystery stories rolled into one sweet jar of mini treats. One to be listened to over and over again.

A very private story

Judging from existing reviews I expected quite funny and humorous story. However, it turned out a very private and sometimes even intimate story. Enjoyed a lot. Even if one is not a fan of the series this is a good book to have a look at.

Thank you both; Poirot and D.Suchet for it all.

Having, like so many others, grown up watching and reading about the little man on tv and in Dame Agathas books; getting to hear Mr. David Suchet tell me about what it has been like portraying Hercule Poirot was a joy from start to finish. Mr.Suchet talks briefly about each movie; its cast, plot and his thoughts around it with sprinkles of how it affected his own life as the time. It was nice to hear from Poirot as well from time to time, and I thorroughly recommend buying this Audible if you, like the rest of us; enjoyed the little Belgian.

If you loved David Suchet as Poirot ...read it

Any additional comments?

I love David Suchet as Poirot, he is the definitive Poirot, just as Joan Hickson is Miss Marple. what is there not to love about his account of playing the great Belgian detective for all those years. Learning how he chose to play the part and why it is the definitive version and always will be. Oh go on you know you want to

Excellent - Very insightful

I have been an avid Poirot watcher ever since David Suchet started portraying the Belgian detective many decades ago 🙈, yes I am knocking on a bit. It was a great pleasure to hear David tell the story of his experience of bringing the character to life, in his own words. It is a very insightful audio book which I greatly enjoyed. Being retired I managed to listen to the book in one sitting and I am sure I will listen to it many times. A great addition to my Audible library and a must for Poirot fans.

Excellent recounting

An excellent recounting of this remarkable journey of David Suchet as Poirot across the filming of all Christie’s stories. Gives personal journey of Suchet and insights into some of his other works and into the industry. Well structured and well told. Recommended, especially if you liked the Poirot series or David Suchet.

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!

Agatha Christie’s Poirot has always meant so much to me and growing up I used to love watching them on a Sunday with my grandparents. David Suchet‘s account of his experience playing this wonderful character is a perfect way to get to know both David Suchet and Hercule Poirot. Beautifully read, of course, and wonderfully written by Suchet. It’s one of those books you’ll want to relisten to again and again.

Exceptional!

Absolutely one of my favourite Audio Books.
I have always been a fan of Poirot since I saw the Peter Ustinov films. Then I read the books and saw the ITV show... which took Poirot to whole new level!
To now hear the story of how he became, and embodied Poirot for all those years, from David Suchet himself is an enthralling privilege!
For me there is now only ONE Poirot, in much the same way that there is only one Superman in Christopher Reeve, and that is David Suchet.
