About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

From Robert Sheehan, star of Misfits and The Umbrella Academy, and host of hit podcast The Earth Locker, comes a heartfelt journey to inner peace.

In Playing Dead, Robert Sheehan shares intimate reflections on his search for purpose, looking back at the adventures – and misadventures – of his life so far, and sharing the profoundly transformative lessons he has learnt along the way.

Meditation is at the heart of Robert's route to spiritual awakening. In Playing Dead he reveals the turbulence in his life that led him to seek calm and tranquility within. A beautiful, meandering memoir reflecting a rich tapestry of experience, uncovering how spirituality has become his anchor in the constant moving tide. Combining storytelling with letters, poetry, childhood memories and thoughtful musings on fame.

Through this compelling description of his quest for inner stillness, Robert shows us how we can welcome a practice of meditation into our own lives, with tools for soothing your nervous system and focusing a fretful mind. In a world where our attention is constantly up for grabs, Playing Dead shows how we can give our souls the deep rest we crave.

Incredible, so open and a beautiful explanation of coping with life. A genuine joy to hear, a decent reminder to return to my meditation.

Such a lovely and open view of mindfulness.

There has always been something fascinating about Robert, his acting is fantastic and now an author, this book, although hard going at first, - I've never grasped meditation - amongst his passion for it, allowed you to peak into his life, his thoughts and experiences. His charming accent had me floating away and then bursting out laughing at the most unexpected moments. I loved it.

Robert lays himself completely bare, he puts his flaws and challenges out for all to see. He then faces these head on with ups and downs of success and, well I won’t repeat his own words, but let’s just say, he is very open and honest about his progress and reflections of his life’s decisions at times. I’ve never met him, but I fell in love with him and how he shares his discoveries and how meditation has helped him heal. I can’t put this book down, or I can’t take my headphones out; I don’t want to, I just want to listen over and over again. Oh eck, I’m even starting to sound like Robert.

Raw honesty of a personal journey into meditation.

myself and husband have listened to this on audible every evening since downloading and absolutely loved every minute and the soothing voice of Robert Sheehan himself... Loved the poetry, Limericks and Sea Shanty's between his stories and it's actually not all about meditation, but his founded fame that led him to use meditation to switch off when needs be. Really didn't expect that we'd both enjoy this and thoroughly recommend to all. Going to listen a second time!
