Pinocchio is by all odds the best puppet-story to be found anywhere, and we sigh in sympathy with the funny little chap's scrapes and punishments, or chuckle at his pranks, while we feel like exclaiming, "Why, how much Pinocchio must have been like me!"

The author of this captivating tale, Signor Lorenzini, or "Collodi" as he liked to call himself after his native town in Italy, lived during the 19th century (1826-90) and devoted himself to writing and education, believing that one pleasing way to teach was through puppet-plays.

There are several versions of Pinocchio available and I sampled all of them because I was after the nearest translation to the original, and this seems to be it, so 5 stars for the story.
The reader performs the text well enough and the Aussie accent is not a problem. Where the difficulty arises his impersonations of the many characters, which are generally poor and occasionally in distinct, and his attempts at various English regional dialects are deplorable and quite unnecessary for the plot: the book is already a translation!!!
I still suspect that this may turn out to be the best effort yet; the rest seem definitely addressed to toddlers who would not be likely to enjoy this rendering as much as Idif.

Probably the best version for an adult.
