Agatha, en jordbunden, flittig studerende fra Cambridge, Stella – sværmerisk, usikker og uselvstændig, Prue med de lange, rødlakerede negle og et ualmindelig godt blik for mænd.
De deler et lille, klamt loftskammer og spiser grød kl. 5 om morgenen, før de skal i stalden for at malke og muge ud! I løbet af få dage har Prue ikke længere lange negle, og Stella er for træt til at drømme.
