About this listen

For four characters the 500 quid worry bead in their pocket may be both a blessing and a curse.

For elderly Dr Zachary Busner, it's his lifeline to his autistic grandson Ben, whose own connection with technology is, in turn, a vital one.

For MI6 agent Jonathan De'Ath, aka 'the Butcher', the phone may reveal his best kept secret of all: that Colonel Gawain Thomas is his lover.

Perfect for audio (which sounds like a facetious insult - but isn’t). Phone is an almost Great Novel almost perfectly read; almost tender/ perfectly nearly unexpectedly poignant. Almost ‘Lovely’ in fact.

I found the story very confusing and rambling. It seemed to switch between characters without me noticing and Then I would get lost. I listen in the car so it only has about 50% of my attention but every other book has been fine, this one however I had very little idea what was going on most of the time.

Too confusing to listen to

I love Will Self but found this too hard going. I lapsed far to often to be able to follow and lost whole sections due to mind wandering!

I tried!
