About this listen

Peter Lovesey is a British writer of historical and contemporary detective novels and short stories. His best-known series characters are Sergeant Cribb, a Victorian-era police detective based in London, and Peter Diamond, a modern-day police detective in Bath. Lovesey's novels are entertaining puzzlers in the "Golden Age" tradition of mystery writing.

This Peter Lovesey collection brings together his standalone dramas for radio.

It includes:

Keystone –Adapted from the 1983 novel, Peter Lovesey's thriller is set among the real stars of the silver screen in the heyday of silent movies. English actor Warwick Easton is hired as a Keystone Cop, but comedy swiftly turns to tragedy. Dramatised by Michael Z Lewin, with Mark Straker as Warwick Easton and Jennifer Ehle as Amber.

Rough Cider – In the 1960s, a lecturer is forced to re-live his childhood memories of a gruesome murder. Did he contribute to a miscarriage of justice? Adapted from the 1986 novel by Michael Z Lewin, starring Rob Edwards as Theo and Briony Glassco as Alice.

Bertie and the Crime of Passion – Bertie, the Prince of Wales Bertie (and future King Edward VII) is an amateur sleuth. It's 1891, and there's been a fatal shooting at the Moulin Rouge nightclub in Montmartre. Bertie embarks on an investigation, taking him through the winding streets of Paris alongside his famous and glamorous actress companion, Sarah Bernhardt. An historical whodunnit adapted from the 1993 novel, dramatised by Geoffrey M Matthews and starring Robert Lang and Jane Lapotaire.

'Vandals' – Miss Parmenter disliked the young man on sight. He looked no better than a vandal. What was he doing on her doorstep? Read by Auriol Smith.

'Curl Up and Dye' – A haircut turns into an uncomfortably close shave for the unfortunate client. Read by John Baddeley.

'The Stalker' – It started with one of those calls you dread, at 2.15am, when you're in no state to pick up a phone ... Read by James Bryce.

'Murdering Max' – A tale of bitter rivalry in the competitive world of crime fiction. Read by James Bryce.
