About this listen

You heard it here first: The unabridged edition of Paths of Glory is only available as a download.

This is the story of a man who loved two women, and one of them killed him.

Some people have dreams that are so outrageous that if they were to achieve them, their place in history would be guaranteed. Francis Drake, Robert Scott, Percy Fawcett, Charles Lindbergh, Amy Johnson, Edmund Hillary and Neil Armstrong are among such individuals.

But what if one man had such a dream, and when he'd achieved it, there was no proof that he had fulfilled his ambition?

Paths of Glory, is the story of such a man. But not until you've turned the last page of this extraordinary novel, will you be able to decide if George Mallory should be added to this list of legends, because if he were, another name would have to be removed.

Addictive listening.

I found this audio book a fantastic introduction into the historical account of George Mallory's climbing career. Being a huge Archer fan for many years I downloaded this audio book without ever hearing the name 'George Mallory'. I was stunned to discover that the book was based on a real person/s. The narration was wonderful and true. Yet another memorable read/listen from Archer.

A very good listen

I was very pleasantly surprised at the story having visited the Everest area before. The description of the processes and attitudes of the time was also good. This is a story that would make a good film when one day they find the elusive camera. The key of course is to be successful you must return. The epilogue was also interesting. To think they tried to climb the mountain in the equipment of the time says so much of the drive and ambition of all the team. Another triumphant failure perhaps but nonetheless a magnificent effort.

Another example of Archer's epic storytelling

Enjoyed every second I listened, like others, I had no prior knowledge of Mallory and his exploits so to discover you're reading a true story told as well as if it is fiction is quite the testament to the book.

Archer never fails! Another triump of a book!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I have read all of Archers's books and he is so consistant enhanced only by the excellent narration!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Paths of Glory?

I never knew much about George Mallory and his pursuit of Everest, this has certainly peaked my interest ! his background, his family, his friends, and especially his wife, now shared with us the reader!

Any additional comments?

Just read and / or listen to it !!...so worth the time spent !!

quite fancy everest now

Well whatever you think of Jeffrey Archer, he can still spin a good yarn. This is really well done,as he has crafted it around real events which I didn't realise at the time of purchase. He has brought the characters to life quite respectfully, and described the era very well. The descriptions of the adventuring spirit are really good, and quite inspiring. I think it appeals to men and women alike. Well worth a listen.
